2-4" Pandora Cobble
Description
2-4″ Pandora Cobble is a great choice for driveways, large-scale drainage, and bold accent applications because it stays firmly in place, resists shifting even in high-traffic or high-flow areas, and creates a substantial, natural look. Its larger size makes it especially popular for erosion control, French drains, and dry creek beds. It's also a striking choice for xeriscaping and statement borders where you want the rock itself to be a focal point. With its muted blend of mauve, plum-brown, and warm gray tones, accented by fine white mineral speckling and deep charcoal patches, this stone brings a moody, sophisticated character to any landscape. Whether used as a decorative accent, a driveway base, or a drainage solution, 2-4″ Pandora Cobble delivers dramatic scale and lasting performance in virtually any application.

Installation Depth Guide — Cubic Yard Coverage for 2-4″ Pandora Cobble
| Depth | Coverage per Cubic Yard | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 1″ | ~300 sq ft | Too shallow |
| 2″ | ~150 sq ft | Not recommended |
| 3″ | ~100 sq ft | Minimum depth |
| 3.5″ | ~90 sq ft | Recommended |
| 4″ | ~80 sq ft | Ideal depth |
| 5″ | ~70 sq ft | Usually unnecessary |
| 6″ | ~60 sq ft | Excessive |
Note: Because individual stones can measure up to 4½″, a typical installation depth is 5-6 inches for this rock — enough to fully bed the largest pieces. Installing shallower than 4 inches will leave larger stones sitting loosely on top of the base rather than nested in, which can cause shifting. When in doubt, test a small section first.
Product details, what you should know
- Sizing: Primarily 2″–4″ material. Some pieces may exceed 4½″, and the material will include a small amount of smaller particles and fines as part of the natural mix.
- Cleanliness: Unwashed material with a presence of fines (typically less than 10-15%). Fines from production, handling and transport are normal.
- Appearance: Fractured stone featuring a muted blend of mauve, plum-brown, and warm gray, with fine white mineral speckling across most faces and occasional darker charcoal patches. Colors deepen and become more vibrant when wet. Color may vary slightly between loads.
- History: Material has remained generally consistent in size and color over time. The mauve, plum-brown, and warm gray blend with white speckling is typical of this stone, with minor variation between loads as expected with any quarried material. Colors tend to appear more muted when dry and deepen noticeably when wet.
- Also known as: Commonly referred to as large rip rap or crushed plum rock.
Pandora is a large-format option with a more subdued, sophisticated palette than our brighter reds and golds — it works well for driveways, drainage, and accent applications where a moody, muted tone is preferred over bold color. Its 2-4″ size gives it real visual weight and makes it well suited for erosion control and areas where stability under heavy flow or traffic is a priority. Worth noting — the mauve and plum-brown tones deepen nicely after rain, making it a great choice if you want a large-format stone with understated, elegant color rather than high-contrast brightness.
