Description
1" Red Lava Rock is a great choice for flower beds, decorative landscaping, and much more. It is a lightweight yet durable rock sourced from real volcanic activity and has a porous texture that allows it to retain moisture for plant beds while also giving your landscape a long lasting bold look. This can be used instead of mulch to suppress weed growth and control soil temperate without breaking down in any gardening or flower beds. It is overall a red rock with hints of black that gives a natural look for all outdoor designs.

Note: A typical installation depth is 2–2.5 inches for this rock, which provides good coverage for most applications. Installing at 3 inches can offer added durability and longer-lasting coverage, especially in higher-use areas. Depths less than 2 inches may allow weed barrier or soil to become visible. When in doubt, test a small section first.
Product details, what you should know
- Sizing: Primarily 1/2"–1" material. Some pieces may exceed 1", and the material will include smaller particles and fines as part of the natural mix.
- Cleanliness: Unwashed material with a presence of fines (typically less than 10-15%). Fines from production, handling and transport are normal.
- Appearance: Fractured red lava rock with a few pieces of black varying throughout. Color may vary slightly between loads.
- History: Size has remained consistent over time. Because of natural mining process some loads can have a higher presence of black mixed in. As always, natural variation is part of the character of the stone.
- Also known as: Commonly referred to as landscape gravel or decorative lava rock.
Lava rock is an excellent choice that gives any landscape a clean modern look and we love it for gardening and/or flower beds. It can have a higher percentage of fines between 10-15% and is not 100% red. It does have some black color mixed into it that gives it depth and character. The amount of black varies depending on the mining process.
