Note: A typical installation depth is 3–3.5 inches for this rock, which provides good coverage for most applications. Installing at 4 inches can offer added durability and longer-lasting coverage, especially in higher-use areas. Depths less than 3 inches may allow weed barrier or soil to become visible. When in doubt, test a small section first.
Product details, what you should know
- Sizing: Primarily 3/4"–2" material. Some pieces may exceed 2", and the material will include smaller particles and fines as part of the natural mix.
- Cleanliness: Unwashed material with a presence of fines (typically less than 10-15%). Fines from production, handling and transport are normal.
- Appearance: Fractured stone featuring a rich blend of bold red and deep rust tones with subtle charcoal and mauve accents. Color may vary slightly between loads.
- History: Size has remained consistent over time. This material is sourced from the same vein as our 1½″ Royal Gravel and is specifically selected during red-heavy production runs. While loads are predominantly red and rust in tone, some natural variation between loads is to be expected.
- Also known as: Commonly referred to as landscape gravel or decorative driveway rock.
Royal Red is a great pick for customers who want the performance of Royal Gravel with a bolder, warmer color. It holds up well in driveways and landscaping and has a distinctly rich look that really stands out. Like Royal, expect around 10-15% fines — great for compaction, but it may arrive looking a bit dusty compared to cleaner stones.
