Installation Depth Guide — Cubic Yard Coverage for 1″ Buckaroo Crushed Stone

Depth Coverage per Cubic Yard Recommendation
1″ ~300 sq ft Too shallow
1.5″ ~200 sq ft Not recommended
2″ ~150 sq ft Minimum depth
2.5″ ~120 sq ft Recommended
3″ ~100 sq ft Ideal depth
3.5″ ~90 sq ft Usually unnecessary
4″ ~80 sq ft Excessive

Note: A typical installation depth is 2–2.5 inches for this rock, which provides good coverage for most applications. Installing at 3 inches can offer added durability and longer-lasting coverage, especially in higher-use areas. Depths less than 2 inches may allow weed barrier or soil to become visible. When in doubt, test a small section first.

Product details, what you should know

  • Sizing: Primarily 1/2"–1" material. Some pieces may exceed 1", and the material will include smaller particles and fines as part of the natural mix.
  • Cleanliness: Unwashed material with a presence of fines (typically less than 10-15%). Fines from production, handling and transport are normal.
  • Appearance: Fractured stone featuring a warm natural blend of red, rust, and earthy gray tones with subtle cream and charcoal accents. Colors deepen and become more vibrant when wet. Color may vary slightly between loads.
  • History: Material has remained generally consistent in size and color over time, though as with most multi-toned stones, the balance of red, rust, and gray can shift slightly between loads. The red and rust tones are most prominent when the stone is wet, while dry loads may appear more muted. Natural variation is to be expected with any quarried material.
  • Also known as: Commonly referred to as landscape gravel or decorative driveway rock.

RockOn.com’s Insight

1″ Buckaroo Crushed Stone is a great option when you want the bold, warm character of Buckaroo in a slightly more refined size. It performs well in driveways and landscaping and has a distinctly rich look that really stands out. Worth noting — this stone has a great wet color, with the reds and rusts really popping after rain. Expect around 10-15% fines, which aids compaction but means it may arrive looking a bit dusty compared to cleaner stones.

Natural Material Variation Notice

Natural Material Variation Notice

This is a natural stone product. Color, size, shape, and texture may vary from load to load and may differ from photos shown on our website. The class size and the size range specified is usually based on ASTM sizing and grades however not every product goes through initial or constant testing. There may be pieces that measure longer than what is specified in the size range since the max size is usually based on the largest size of the screen that the rock passes through and longer pieces may "thread" through. If your project requires a specific sizing and a gradation the meets certain requirements please contact us. Lighting conditions, cleanliness, moisture, and source location can also affect appearance.

Photos and descriptions are provided as general examples only. We recommend viewing material in person before purchasing when exact color or appearance is important.
