3/4" Gray Slag
Description
¾″ Gray Slag is a durable and practical choice for driveways, RV pads, and pathways, offering excellent compaction and long-term stability. Its angular, porous texture helps it lock in place under traffic, making it a reliable low-maintenance surface option. It's also a popular choice for drainage applications and industrial or commercial settings. With its medium gray tones that deepen to a rich, dark charcoal when wet, Gray Slag has a bold, utilitarian look that works well in both functional and modern landscape designs.

Installation Depth Guide — Cubic Yard Coverage for ¾″ Gray Slag
| Depth | Coverage per Cubic Yard | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 1″ | ~300 sq ft | Too shallow |
| 1.5″ | ~200 sq ft | Not recommended |
| 2″ | ~150 sq ft | Minimum depth |
| 2.5″ | ~120 sq ft | Recommended |
| 3″ | ~100 sq ft | Ideal depth |
| 3.5″ | ~90 sq ft | Usually unnecessary |
| 4″ | ~80 sq ft | Excessive |
Note: A typical installation depth is 2–2.5 inches for this rock, which provides good coverage for most applications. Installing at 3 inches can offer added durability and longer-lasting coverage, especially in higher-use areas. Depths less than 2 inches may allow weed barrier or soil to become visible. When in doubt, test a small section first.
Product details, what you should know
- Sizing: Primarily 1/2"–1" material. Some pieces may exceed 1", and the material will include smaller particles and fines as part of the natural mix.
- Cleanliness: Unwashed material with a presence of fines (typically less than 10-15%). Fines from production, handling and transport are normal.
- Appearance: Angular, porous stone with a rough, irregular texture featuring medium gray tones dry. Colors deepen dramatically to dark charcoal when wet. Color may vary slightly between loads.
- History: As an industrial byproduct material, slag is generally very consistent in size and color between loads. Minor variation in tone is possible but less common than with naturally quarried stone.
- Also known as: Commonly referred to as landscape gravel or decorative driveway rock.
Gray Slag is a solid, no-frills option for customers who prioritize function over aesthetics. It compacts exceptionally well, holds up under heavy traffic, and its angular texture means it stays put better than many natural gravels. The dark wet color is a nice bonus — it has a sleek, modern look after rain that some customers really appreciate.
