Note: A typical installation depth is 2–2.5 inches for this rock, which provides good coverage for most applications. Installing at 3 inches can offer added durability and longer-lasting coverage, especially in higher-use areas. Depths less than 2 inches may allow weed barrier or soil to become visible. When in doubt, test a small section first.
Product details, what you should know
- Sizing: Primarily 1/2"–1" material. Some pieces may exceed 1", and the material will include smaller particles and fines as part of the natural mix.
- Cleanliness: Unwashed material with a presence of fines (typically less than 10-15%). Fines from production, handling and transport are normal.
- Appearance: Smooth, naturally rounded river pebbles featuring a rich mix of deep red, warm brown, olive green, creamy tan, and cool gray tones. Colors deepen and become more vibrant when wet. Color may vary slightly between loads.
- History: Material has remained generally consistent in size and color over time. The rich variety of tones is typical of this stone, with minor variation between loads as expected with any naturally sourced river pebble.

Modern River Pebbles are one of our favorite decorative options for customers who want something with real visual impact. The color variety is impressive dry, but they truly shine when wet — the reds, browns, and greens deepen dramatically, making them a particularly stunning choice around water features and fountains. As with all smooth rounded pebbles, we don't recommend them for driveways or RV pads as they tend to shift under vehicle weight.
