Installation Depth Guide — Cubic Yard Coverage for 1" Roman Crushed Stone
| Depth | Coverage per Cubic Yard | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 1″ | ~300 sq ft | Too shallow |
| 1.5″ | ~200 sq ft | Not recommended |
| 2″ | ~150 sq ft | Minimum depth |
| 2.5″ | ~120 sq ft | Recommended |
| 3″ | ~100 sq ft | Ideal depth |
| 3.5″ | ~90 sq ft | Usually unnecessary |
| 4″ | ~80 sq ft | Excessive |
Note: A typical installation depth is 2–2.5 inches for this rock, which provides good coverage for most applications. Installing at 3 inches can offer added durability and longer-lasting coverage, especially in higher-use areas. Depths less than 2 inches may allow weed barrier or soil to become visible. When in doubt, test a small section first.
Product details, what you should know
- Sizing: Primarily 1" material. Some pieces may exceed 1", and the material will include smaller particles and fines as part of the natural mix.
- Cleanliness: Unwashed material with a presence of fines (typically less than 10-15%). Fines from production, handling and transport are normal.
- Appearance: Fractured tan rock with golden highlights. Color may vary slightly between loads.
- History: Size has remained consistent over time. As always, natural variation is part of the character of the stone.
- Also known as: Commonly referred to as landscape gravel or decorative gravel.
Roman is an excellent gravel for decorative landscaping and can also be used for pathways and driveways. It is an angular crush that interlocks well. It is used more often as a decorative landscaping due to it's soft tan cream sandstone appearance.
